The 28th World Archery Field Championships were held at the Lakeland Archery Centre in Lac La Biche, Alberta, Canada, from 16 to 22 September 2024. Field archery is shot over courses of marked and unmarked distances through natural terrain, with recurve, compound and barebow divisions.

Italy finished top of the medal table with six gold, five silver and four bronze medals. The United States won five golds and 14 medals in total. Host nation Canada collected one silver and two bronze.

Team events

World field team events combine one archer from each bow style. Slovenia won the men's team title and the mixed team title, while Italy won the women's team event.

Milestones

  • Brady Ellison won the world field title for the third time, adding 2024 to his 2014 and 2016 victories.
  • Paige Pearce became compound women's world field champion for the third consecutive edition.
  • Mike Schloesser added another field title to a season that also included World Cup Final bronze in Tlaxcala a month later.

What is different about field archery?

Unlike target archery on a flat field, world field courses use 24 targets across uneven ground, with 12 at unmarked distances that archers must judge for themselves. Target face sizes range from 20 cm to 80 cm and distances reach 60 metres for recurve and compound. The format rewards range estimation and shooting on slopes as much as pure accuracy, which is why the champions list often differs from the target circuit.
